Its balanced formula allows healthy plant growth and strong root development in a normal Aquarium and Aquascape... It is ready to use and there is no need for rinsing. A high temperature treatment (around 1200°C;2192°F) has given its physical properties and so is free of any parasitic species which could contaminate your aquarium. Features and Benefits: 1, Each granule has a size of 1 to 3 mm, is compact enough not to turn into powder, while allowing plants to grow their roots properly. 2, It is porous enough to allow nitrifying bacteria to properly colonise the substrate and therefore improve water quality. 3, Once the aquarium is filled it forms a crust therefore holding the soil in place for Aquascaping. High soil levels at the rear of the aquarium are therefore less likely to slip down towards the front. 4, No need for rinsing, Very clean product. 5, Each Bag will includes a sealed pack of PRODIBIO BACTERKIT - Essential Bacteria and Nutrients that will colonise and start up optimum biological filtration in the soil. & is supplied in a glass vial so the bacteria is always “Live & Fresh” at the time of use. How to use Remember is ready to use & it is no need to rinse. 9 litre/9 Kg (2.25 Gal/317.46 Oz.) bag is suitable for a 60 litre (15 Gal) aquarium. 1 bag = approx measurements of 50cm x 34cm area coverage at 7cm depth. Should you wish to bank the soil higher at the back? We recommend 2 bags to cover the same area to your own liking. For effective plant growth we recommend planting plant roots in soil depth of 5 to 6 cm (2 to 2.4 inches). https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=borFCWVatKc

What I expected
As expected, having used similar substrates before. Sinks nicely, not too much clouding of the water when first set up. A few months down the line the tank is now established and the plants are growing well.
