Born On the Water in the fishing capital of the world, Costa sunglasses are made for those who don’t just spend their lives on the water, they come to life on the water. Each pair is packed with polarized, color-enhancing 580 lens technology. The result? Less haze and enhanced contrast and clarity. Available in glass (580G) for superior clarity and scratch resistance or a lightweight, impact-resistant polycarbonate (580P), it’s like seeing in high-definition. Experience sunglasses for life’s great adventures.

Crystal Frames with 580G Lenses - I totally love them!
I purchased these glasses after losing a prescription version of them, so this is my second pair, which should tell you that I really love these glasses. I originally bought them at the recommendation of my Optometrist since I am involved in boating, sailing, fishing, and snow skiing, all which reflect a great amount of sunlight. These glasses are designed to block out sunlight not only through the lenses, but the light that typically enters around the frames, so when you are wearing them, you get superior protection from the sun. My first pair had plastic 400-series lenses, while my second pair has the glass 580-series lenses. The plastic lenses are needed if you are getting a "progressive" prescription, which is what I had, and the plastics are supposedly lighter. I really don't notice any difference in weight with the glass lenses (they don't feel heavy), but they are noticeably clearer and supposedly more scratch resistant than the plastic (per the Costa del Mar website). There is a definite difference in the wavelength of light that gets through the 400 and 580 series lenses and according to the Costa del Mar website, the 580's block blue and yellow light to cut haze. To me, the 580 lenses definitely seem clearer than the 400 lenses, but I also went from plastic (400P) to glass (580G) lenses, so it's hard to tell if it was the change from 400 to 580 or from plastic to glass. In any case, the Tuna Alley glasses with the 580G lenses are awesome. They are comfortable (I have forgotten that I am wearing them and started to look for them!) and provide incredible sun protection. I personally think that the crystal frames with the blue finished lenses are super cool looking and I get lots of comments on them, but they come un a number of colors. While they don't really need a retainer to hold them in place, I would recommend one if you are fishing or boating. I lost a pair by putting them up on my baseball cap after sundown while cleaning the deck - not a good idea. I bought the Chums retainer with the large ends which work perfectly.

Totally legit
So I picked these up on Amazon prime day for $132.00. I’ve always wanted these and actually tried them on at a Costa retailer, but the original price of $279 had made me wait so I couldn’t say no to this. I decided to do the try before you buy because I wasn’t 100% sure that they were authentic and other members of my family own Costas and bought them from the retailer direct said they would know as soon as they saw them. Me on the other hand trust no one and know how good people are at counterfeiting, and there are very small details that can be left out or distorted that identify the item as fake. The packaging it arrived in, was clearly marked and looked how it should. It came with the warranty card written in like 30 different languages a thank you card,Costa sticker and blue cleaning cloth. So far it looked pretty good, but I was still skeptical. I went on. YouTube did some research, read reviews and went to the actual website to compare what I received.Authentic Costas will have 580P for the polycarbonate lenses in 580 for the glass engraved at the top left corner of the glasses in the left lens. There should be four raised Cs on the tail of the earpiece to keep them from slipping off. The word costa should be in raised letters on the right inside arm along with Tuna Alley. The patent number, model., and size information will also be printed in a string of numbers on the left arm of the glassesMine had all of this. But still not 100% convinced I called Costa directly to verify that these were authentic and Costa confirmed that they most definitely are. Some models will say made in Italy, like mine does on the right arm next to the race coaster insignia. She told me that some of them do actually have that as the company was purchased in 2014 by a French company called Essilor that merged with an Italian company called Luxottica in 2018. (so if you see made in Italy on your pear, don’t worry it’s been confirmed that that is legitimate, as some assembly is done there, but the frames and lenses are manufactured in the United States)They’re have been questions about the warranty not being valid or limited, but she assured me that if they are an authentic pair of coasters, then it does not matter where they were purchased, and the warranty is in effect for them, which is a limited two year warranty for manufacturer defects if they were purchased after 2018. The warranty for all of their products no matter where purchased (again, as long as they are authentic)does not cover wear and tear or scratched lenses. If the glasses are deemed to have been damaged due to faulty manufacturing they will be exchanged free of charge.I am very pleased, knowing that this purchase was not only a great deal, but an authentic product. Customer service at Costa was very helpful and thanked me for purchasing them even though I didn’t get it direct I took these out on the water yesterday to try them out and I could see, the pin fish stealing my bait. That’s a first because all the time I thought I was just getting bites and missing them. LolI hope this long winded review helps an answered questions that I know many of you had!

Durable
Got these for my husband when they were on sale for $125 and he loves them. They fit very snug behind the ears, which I would not be a fan of but he loves. He does construction and likes that they don't fall off his face as he is looking down. We have only had them 2 weeks so far, but they haven't gotten any scratches or scuffs yet, in his line of work that says a lot. The polarization works well for him working outside all day.He had a comparable pair of Oakleys which also cost about $250 at regular price and these are hands down much higher quality and worth the price simply for the scratch resistance. The oakleys only lasted about 3 months before they were so scratched he could barely see out of them. Only time will tell, but I already expect these to last much longer.
