It's a tool, not a work of art. It works and that's all that counts.
I took a leap of faith and decided to give this a try since it hadn't been previously reviewed. After my first small project I have to say it worked just fine.First, YES you will need a punch to place a hole in your work of the desired size. I find using a punch 1/16" smaller than the diameter of the larger grommets works fine. This brings me to my second point.Second, you need to experiment on something prior to committing and make sure you have the routine perfected for a good outcome. This unit is certainly not a work of art and screams made in China. The unit is green, has a funky metal smell and cheap fittings. It comes with 3 sizes of dies to install 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" grommets. It also comes with a generous supply of stainless steel grommets in each size.Assembly is easy. Simply mount the handle using the provided bolt and install the desired die set. The top die screws into the unit and the bottom die simply drops into place and is held in position with a set screw. There is also a stop screw between the handle and the unit which can be adjusted as needed. Setup complete.Using the unit is also simple. Here are a few pointers.1) The grommet sets have 2 pieces. One looks like a top hat and goes on the bottom die first. The second looks like a concave washer and will end up sitting on top of the work piece. Make sure you search through the bag of grommets for the washers because it's a small bag and may be hard to find.2) To use first punch an appropriate side hole in the material. Then put the top had side of the grommet on the bottom die with the 'hat' portion facing up. Put your material over the 'top hat' grommet so the 'hat' portion now pokes through the hole in your project. Next place the washer side of the grommet on top of your project. The washer grommet should concave side up (so if it were a bowl it would sitting on top just like a cereal bowl). When everything is in position push firmly down on the handle and the unit will crimp the grommet in place.Quality aside I had no problems installing grommets on the bottom of a BBQ cover. I'm tired of replacing velcro and will be using a rope threaded through the grommets to keep it from blowing off.I expect with reasonable care this unit will be capable of more projects than I'll take on in my lifetime.

Hunk of junk
I bought this to use in addition to my Kam DK98 Press which is very heavy duty but does not have much clearance to reach deep into the fabric. This thing is a hunk of junk! I was not expecting it to be able to compete with my DK98, but I was expecting that it would at least be able to handle some small grommets. Turns out that the shaft comes down at an angle so one side of the grommet would be smashed to bits by the time the other side was pressed - as much as we tried fiddling with the adjustments there was no way to fix it. Do yourself a favor and and go spend the extra $20 to buy a Kam press (the new model is a DK93 and has the same amount of clearance this has).

As listed
All the pieces came in and instruction was easy to understand. But I have no idea where to buy additional dies. Only gromet pieces, my friend has a higher end model and their dye are not compatible.

Missing all three dies
I received the grommet machine and three packages of grommets. There were no dies and package said to include three dies. Returned and received a great product!
